Carl joined DeMorgenzon in July 2010 after an 8 year stint at Quoin Rock Winery in Stellenbosch where he made excellent wines and collected accolades.

Whilst Carl’s extraordinary talent in the winery and genius in the cellar add immeasurably to DeMorgenzon, it is his dark and sultry good looks that seem to have raised the most interest. Speaking of good looks brings us to Kath, Carl’s beautiful, erudite and energetic wife and their gorgeous children who add so much to the life of DeMorgenzon.

Carl excelled in his degree in Business Management and Oenology at Stellenbosch University and is currently working towards his British Master of Wine.

In addition to extensive travel through the wine regions of France, Spain, Italy and North America, Carl has worked for a cumulative period of 9 months in France as well as a harvest season in Washington State. He brings both international experience and a passion for premium wine production to the DeMorgenzon team.

Carl firmly believes that a biodiverse and ecologically sensitive environment produces infinitely better grapes. He is deeply committed to the sustainable development of the South African wine industry and we are looking forward to DeMorgenzon’s continued success with Carl at the helm.
